Murcia Airport

Murcia San Javier Airport (click here for map) is located on Spain's eastern coast, in an area known as La Manga. The city of Murcia itself is well inland, approximately 50 km to the north east of the airport. Our villa is a 45 minute drive Southwards along the A7 motorway into Mazarron. Also within very easy reach of Murcia San Javier Airport are the resorts on the Mar Menor and the town Torrevieja, which is 25 km up the coast. Go north to Alicante and the Costa Blanca, go south to Aguilas and Mojacar.

This airport can receive aircraft up to the size of Boeing 757 or 767. It has been declared fire category 5 by the IATA, and it has one ambulance available. Over the last few years, Murcia Airport has become busier, thanks to the arrival of several low-cost airlines. Passenger numbers have jumped from just 88 thousand in 1995 to 848 thousand in 2004. In 2006 over one and a half million passengers used the airport.

The airport has very good facilities for people with disabilities. The Special Assistance team are always on hand to help and are very friendly. There are 2 disabled toilets, one at each side of the airport. Despite recent upgrades and improvements to the airport in recent years it is still a relatively small airport (compared with Alicante for example).
